What is UTM & When Do Engineers Use It?
UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator)
UTM is a coordinate system that divides the world into 60 zones, each 6° of longitude wide. Instead of using degrees, UTM expresses locations in metres (Easting and Northing) from a defined origin — making it far more practical for engineering and construction work than Lat/Lon degrees.

WGS84 (World Geodetic System 1984) is the global standard used by GPS and Google Maps. Pakistan's official Survey uses an older local datum called "India Zones" or "Everest 1830" ellipsoid. The difference can be 200–400 metres depending on location. For modern engineering projects, WGS84/UTM is preferred as all GPS equipment uses it natively.
